Thriving: How To Raise Confident, Resilient Children
Book Title: Thriving - How To Raise Confident, Resilient Kids
Raising your kids to be confident and resilient today is quite a challenge. Kids are growing up much too fast, and their parents are unsure of the place they occupy in their children’s lives. Add to this the fact that today's kids live with pressures that previous generations didn't have to face – online bullying comes quickly to mind. Also, kids today grow up with fewer siblings, which means parents focus their attention more sharply on them.
The result of all this is that many children today are anxious and afraid to take risks.
"This book has given my wife and I a clear look at how we want to raise our children. Michael Grose speaks directly to parents with clear ideas and guidelines that we have implemented. So happy to have found this gem," said one reviewer. Click here to check on price.
Resilience... is about building inner strength and coping skills in kids. Some kids are resilient by nature – their temperament helps them to be mentally and psychologically tough. You know those kids. They get straight back up after a setback or disappointment. Rejection in the playground doesn’t faze them. Unfortunately, not every child has such natural resilience.
The good news is that most of the research shows that resilience can be nurtured and developed, particularly when parents themselves are resilient and they actively foster it in their kids.
Resilient kids share four basic skill sets – independence, problem-solving, optimism and social connection.
From a resilience perspective parents need to coach kids through some of their more challenging moments and reviewing what they may have learned for next time. This means you avoid solving all their problems for them.
Confidence… Lack of confidence prevents more children from achieving their full potential than any school funding issue that routinely makes newspaper headlines. Confident kids achieve more success socially and academically because they take more risks and stretch themselves more. They are less worried about failure and about what others think.
Self-doubt and lack of confidence hold more kids back than any other factor. You can send kids to the best school available but they won’t be happy and achieve unless they feel confident in their abilities.
Real confidence-building is the most important skill you can develop as a parent. Children with healthy self-esteem and self-confidence learn more, achieve more, have more friends and are generally happier than those with low levels of confidence. Check current price, click here...
